Erica Cunningham

Erica has over a decade of experience in nonprofit leadership and strategy. Her areas of expertise are in ocean, climate, and sustainable food initiatives. She specializes in approaches that require systems thinking, human-centered design, science diplomacy, and coordination across multiple sectors, and public-private partnerships. She has worked and lived throughout the Global South, collaborating with multiple nongovernmental organizations and multilateral institutions focused on international development and the environment. Her most recent projects at CEA have supported the Oak Foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Mexican Conservation Funders group, Conservation International, and The Nature Conservancy.

Before joining CEA in 2024, Erica was the Associate Vice President for Latin America and Caribbean at Environmental Defense Fund in its oceans and climate program, where she led teams to develop partnerships and projects in support of sustainable food systems, climate-resilient fisheries, and marine and coastal conservation. Prior to that role, she was the founding Executive Director of the Punta de Mita Foundation in Mexico and started her career developing a corporate social responsibility and ESG policy at Econergy International with a focus on the expansion of renewable energy throughout Latin America.

Erica holds a Master of International Development and Environmental Policy from Johns Hopkins University, SAIS, and a BA magna cum laude from Middlebury College in international studies and political science.
