Mitch joined CEA in 2007 and focuses on communications, climate change, biodiversity conservation, and strategic planning for nonprofits and philanthropy.
He brings 15 years of experience as a writer, editor, teacher, policy analyst, and social science researcher to the CEA team. Mitch's first book, Endangered (Fulcrum 2010), evaluates the effectiveness of the Endangered Species Act, with a focus on climate change and the American Southwest.
Prior to joining CEA, Mitch was a newspaper reporter at the Napa Valley Register, Tucson Citizen, and Arizona Daily Star, where he covered water, environmental,
and border issues for five years. In 2006, Mitch was named one of eight fellows of the Alicia Patterson Foundation, sponsor of the nation’s oldest writing fellowship
for U.S. journalists. Before becoming a reporter, Mitch worked for the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C.; the Arizona League of Conservation Voters in Tucson;
the National Parks Conservation Association in Oakland; and the Institute of Governmental Studies at UC Berkeley. He has also taught English in Ecuador and
journalism at Pima Community College.
Mitch has a bachelor’s degree in Ethics, Politics, and Economics from Yale College and a master’s degree in Political Science from UC Berkeley.
In his free time, Mitch enjoys hiking, bicycling, photography, and rooting for the New York Giants.
